“I have worked with this Company for years, and their professionalism and quality has been exceptional. I am impressed with their dedication to setting a high bar in ingredient selection, product preparation, and packaging. It is the only alternative jerky that tastes really good and has the chewability and taste of meat-based jerky. My chef’s hat is off to their accomplishment.”

Frequently Asked Questions
WHY DO YOU CALL YOUR MUSHROOM JERKY ‘CRAFTED?’
Making King Frog’s Crafted Mushroom Jerky is a hands-on process. It’s as much ‘art’ as it is ‘science.’ Similar to how some artisan food products are made, our mushroom jerky requires an exercise of senses and standards.
Multiple steps ensure King Frog’s jerky is a top-quality product. From preparing the substrate upon which our mushrooms grow, to selecting the best mushrooms, to seasoning and marinating them, and to dehydrating the final product – care, time, and experience are all essential.
King Frog set out to make a premier mushroom jerky that had the same mouthfeel, look, and texture as standard meat jerkies. Multiple chefs spoke into the process, and we tried again and again till we got it just right.
For us, ‘crafted’ means we set a high bar, and we care about doing it right. That’s why we have ‘A Better Jerky for a Better YouTM.’
WHAT ARE THE NUTRITIONAL BENEFITS OF OYSTER MUSHROOMS?
While Oyster Mushrooms are sometimes overshadowed by all the hype about other strains, Oyster Mushrooms have a long history as a medicinal powerhouse.
Each package of King Frog Crafted Mushroom Jerky contains roughly 2.75 cups of Oyster Mushrooms. This is significant. According to the USDA, just 1 cup (86g) of raw, sliced oyster mushrooms provides: Fat: 0.3g, Sodium: 15.5mg, Carbohydrates: 5.2g, Fiber: 2g, Sugars: 0.95g, Protein: 2.9g, Vitamin B3 (Niacin): 21% of your RDA, Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin): 18% of your RDA, Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid): 11% of your RDA, Phosphorus: 10% of your RDA, Potassium: 10% of your RDA , and Copper:10% of your RDA.
Oyster Mushrooms also provide other important vitamins and minerals including B9 (folate), B6 (pyridoxine) and B1 (thiamin), iron, magnesium, zinc, calcium, manganese, and selenium.
The multiple upsides of Oyster Mushrooms are well-documented, so the bottom line is Oyster Mushrooms are good for you. Their fibrous texture, savory flavor, and woodsy aroma make them especially ideal for jerky production. King Frog incorporates three different types of Oyster Mushrooms in its Crafted Mushroom Jerky: ‘Browns,’ ‘Pinks,’ and ‘Whites.’

WHY DO YOU USE HONEY IF YOU SAY YOUR PRODUCT IS ‘VEGAN?’
It’s clear there is no consistent standard for ‘vegan.’ Some vegans make dietary and lifestyle choices that other vegans do not. We’ve seen no ‘one size fits all.’
It’s also clear that a lively debate about honey has been long-standing within the vegan community. We’ve learned many vegans have no problem incorporating honey into their diet while others try to avoid it. The reality is raw honey is very good for you, and that’s partly why we include it.
King Frog respects the ‘ethos’ of the vegan community. We choose to support local, independent beekeepers who pride themselves on their ‘bee guardianship.’ They practice a bee-centric approach that is more rooted in nature, and one which promotes a sustainable habitat for the bees.

HOW DOES KING FROG’S MUSHROOM JERKY COMPARE TO THE COMPETITION?
When King Frog first set out to produce our ‘Crafted Mushroom Jerky,’ we set some high goals.
For starters, we wanted to make a true ‘jerky,’ not just another ‘snack.’ It had to LOOK like jerky, CHEW like jerky - and if possible, it had to FOOL people into thinking it was meat jerky. Those were our goals.
Because Oyster Mushrooms are more fibrous and less ‘spongy’ than other mushroom strains like Shitake and Portabella, we were one step ahead right there. Oyster Mushrooms closely mimic the look and texture of meat. From there, it was our focus to get the ingredients, production elements, and tastes dialed in. We’ve done that too.
We’ve put our jerky up against a wide range of the competition. Many ‘foodies’ and chefs have tried our Crafted Mushroom Jerky, and a lot of these folks were amazed to learn our jerky was not a meat product. We’ll take that as a compliment.
King Frog’s Crafted Mushroom Jerky is not a mechanized or processed product. It is not a soy derivative. It’s natural, all the way. We grow our own mushrooms; we do not import them.
The result of all this is King Frog’s Crafted Mushroom Jerky is a rare and real deal. It is a unique gourmet experience. We hope you like it.

King Frog started by selling top-quality fresh Oyster Mushrooms to Colorado’s best restaurants. We often heard, "These are the best we've seen!" But we wanted to go further. That's how our mushroom jerky came to life—a blend of passion, science, and craft. Enjoy, and let us know what you think!

Our jerky features a carefully crafted blend of three distinct varieties of oyster mushrooms, delivering a one-of-a-kind flavor and texture experience.
